CREATIVE FIELD NOTES: Lets Take A Field Trip
A Look At Environment, Folder hacking, & Creative inspiration
WHAT IS HAPPENING CREATIVELY THIS WEEK
I am fresh off of a trip to hot ass Orlando Florida. Where I had a chance to recharge with some family, look at some beautiful sunsets, and connect with a potential Heye Frequency client.
In Today’s Field, I’ll cover…
The Shape or Make Environment
How I organize my notes with 3 simple folders
Another tool I use for creative inspiration
+ Some extra stuff.. Maybe?
THE SHAPE YOU OR MAKE YOU ENVIRONMENTS
I looked at the sky and the colors were beautiful, stunning, and everything in between. The funny thing is, just a few minutes earlier it was POURING. As i was headed to dinner it made me think about environments and how they can creatively shape you or make you. Here are a few short thoughts on that.
Two types of environments:
Environments that shape you.
Environments that make you.
Key Decisions:
Your life’s direction and creative potential depend on which environment you choose to align with.
Your external environment reflects your internal mindset, influencing your creativity.
Nurturing Creativity:
Avoid limiting your creative growth based on past environments or others' expectations.
Plant yourself in a growth environment that fuels creativity—one filled with positivity, support, and inspiration.
Creativity Through Challenge:
Environments that make you challenge your thinking, pushing you to grow taller, wiser, and more creative.
Surround yourself with people and situations that stretch your creativity, like in a mastermind group.
Action Steps for Creative Growth:
Seek out environments that spark new ideas and foster creative breakthroughs.
If your current environment is stifling your creativity, take it as a sign to make a change and cultivate a space where your creative potential can flourish.
3 SIMPLE FOLDERS TO ORGANIZE NOTES
There are so many productivity apps out there, sometimes that shit is overwhelming. For me, I decided on one angle that could help, and it’s right in my notes on my phone so I wanted to show that. I also have written notes but my handwriting is trash & I need you guys to not talk about me out here.
Before you say anything idk why it’s showing 0 like I’m not out here working, but you will see lol. Break it down into three main folders. I’ll explain each and also expand the folder so you can see I’m not lying about my notes.
Projects - This is every big project I may be working on or thinking about. From Heye frequency notes, scripts, travel, writing, etc. It just helps me have the umbrella project down & I can organize the notes within each folder.
Resources - This is exactly what it says honestly. Anything I come across I can use to help a narrative I’m working on. Pictures, links, numbers, anything to help articulate something. Those can also be broken into categories. That’s up to you and your OCD.
Archives - I use this folder to hide the older things that I may want to come back to but not sure yet. That way I don’t delete it but I keep it on record to pull from. Ca’s the worst when you delete something thing two weeks later you're like “Damnit!” I had the perfect thought for this.
This is what the project folder looks like extended. It’s easy for me to go into whichever project to pull from. Are there notes with literally a sentence in some of these? Yes, there are. Don’t judge.
ANOTHER TOOL I USE FOR CREATIVE INSPIRATION
A GREAT tool that i use often ESPECIALLY for cinematic direction, is SHOTDECK.
Inception SHOTDECK
Medium Fram explaining color usage, camera, scene etc.
Its great for pulling inspiration any many ways. Whether its setting, color, frame, camera, lighting, it has all of the info you may need for getting a cool ass shot.
In the book “Steal Like An Artist” by Austin Kleon he says “The best way to get started on the path to your own creativity is to copy the things you love”
I believe this is valid. Sometimes you just need the creative push and then you add your sauce to the pot. I would check out SHOTDECK. I believe it’s free for like a two-week trial. If you like it, maybe it will inspire you to keep it. Or at best send you on the right path to gain some creative traction.
A LITTLE EXTRA NOTE TO LEAVE YOU WITH
Heye Frequency Weekly Team Meeting
We made a crucial decision this week involving our product collection. The detail of it is a little complex to get into here, BUT I’ll be sharing more over on YouTube so if you aren’t subscribed there please do! - Heye Frequency Youtube.
The quote the led to the decision was something I heard a few weeks ago which was “Complexity is easy, Simplicity is difficult”
The statement is very true. When building a business it’s easy to add, add, add to mask the key things that really need to be addressed. We were able to dig in deeper into where we wanted to go when we started subtracting to peel back the layers.
It’s okay to get to the truth through tough convos, it’s that environment i spoke about earlier. You want the team around you to push you creatively, you just have to be willing to let go of Ego during a creative battle.
Thank you guys for getting this far if you have.
What would mean the world to me is if you replied to this email with any thoughts, topics, or tools you would like to see. To the ones who have replied you are appreciated! I just want to continue to provide value.
Remember Slow growth is better than no growth! Peace!
