A Flight That Changed My Perspective
As we journey through life, our perspective often shapes our experiences in profound ways. I was reminded of this during a recent trip back from Portland, an encounter that offered me a fresh appreciation for life's fragile beauty.
Upon boarding the plane, I settled into my seat, unsure if I would have a neighbor for the journey. Moments before the door closed, a lady took the seat beside me. Her presence immediately radiated an indescribable, positive energy. A shared joke(cause i’m not rude and like to speak) sparked a conversation, and soon, we delved into our life stories.
I shared my background, influenced by my military parents, and my love for travel. Our conversation went through tales of journeys and the nuances of travel(a topic I could joyfully discuss endlessly.) When I asked about her trip to LA, the conversation unexpectedly deepened….
She revealed that she was visiting her sister, who was in the final stages of battling stage 4 cancer. The stark reality of her words struck me profoundly. Despite the gravity of her situation, she spoke with acceptance and a resolve to cherish the time remaining. I offered my condolences, and we gently steered the conversation forward.
This encounter shifted my perspective. You see, As I was returning to a life filled with friends, a new business venture, and blessings untainted by illness, she was facing a heartrending farewell. Yet, she faced it all with a smile, despite the emotional struggle it entailed.
Such experiences remind us of the unknown battles others may be facing. They teach us the importance of offering a simple smile, a word of encouragement, or a moment of laughter. These gestures might be the very thing someone needs to persevere through their day.
This story is an important reminder of life's impermanence and the uniqueness of our individual struggles. However, the emotions underlying these experiences are universal, allowing us to empathize and connect.
So, as we delve deeper into this holiday season, let's shift our perspective. Remember, what may seem insurmountable to us could be a lesser burden to someone else. This doesn't diminish our struggles but rather empowers us to find strength and share our stories.
Let's embrace the life we have with gratitude, spreading more smiles, joy, and laughter. Every day is a gift let's cherish it with an open heart and a renewed perspective.
Peace & Blessings
